Domestic Technological Breakthrough: High-speed Compatible Solvent-free PU Laminating Adhesive Officially Put into Mass Production

Following the launches of retort-resistant and low-odor upgraded solvent-free polyurethane (PU) laminating adhesives, another core breakthrough has been achieved in domestic green adhesive research and manufacturing. The independently developed high-speed compatible solvent-free PU laminating adhesive has completed pilot tests and stable mass production recently, filling the long-term blank of domestic adhesives that can match full-series high-speed laminating equipment. This milestone eliminates the reliance on imported high-speed special adhesives for domestic flexible packaging factories, and greatly boosts the production efficiency of the whole packaging composite industry.
With the rapid upgrading of flexible packaging production lines, mainstream packaging manufacturers have widely replaced traditional medium-speed laminating machines with high-speed production equipment running at 350m/min to 450m/min, pursuing larger output and lower unit production costs. However, conventional domestic solvent-free laminating adhesives have prominent application defects under ultra-high-speed operating conditions. Affected by mismatched viscosity, poor flowability and unstable initial bonding strength, common adhesives are prone to common failures including wire drawing, uneven glue coating, film offset and composite wrinkling during high-speed lamination. These defects force many domestic manufacturers to purchase expensive imported high-speed dedicated adhesives, which accounts for a high proportion of overall production costs.
For a long time, the core formula and viscosity control technology of high-speed matching solvent-free adhesives have been monopolized by overseas chemical enterprises. Domestic adhesive products could only adapt to medium and low-speed production lines, forming a clear technical gap in the high-end high-speed adhesive track. Restricted by this bottleneck, domestic packaging enterprises cannot give full play to the maximum capacity of newly purchased high-speed equipment, restricting the overall intelligent and high-speed upgrading of the domestic flexible packaging industry chain.
To solve this industrial pain point, the R&D team optimized the rheological properties of adhesive raw materials and adjusted the matching reaction activity system targeted at high-speed machine operating characteristics. The newly mass-produced adhesive features ultra-stable low viscosity within a wide temperature range, excellent shear thinning performance and instant initial adhesion. Professional machine test data proves that the product can run stably on full-range domestic and imported high-speed solvent-free laminating machines with a maximum steady operating speed up to 450m/min, without wire drawing, glue accumulation or composite film deviation throughout the whole production process.
Apart from outstanding high-speed adaptation capability, the new product retains inherent green advantages of solvent-free adhesive series. It achieves zero VOC emissions and zero solvent residue, fully complying with FDA, EU REACH and China national food safety standards. It maintains excellent permanent bonding strength after complete curing, with no delamination or peeling failure for plastic-plastic composite films, aluminum-plastic films and printing composite films used in food, daily chemical and pharmaceutical packaging. Meanwhile, the adhesive has a moderate curing cycle, which will not extend post-production curing time while supporting high-speed online production.
In terms of economic benefits for manufacturers, this domestically produced high-speed adhesive cuts raw material procurement costs by nearly 30% compared with equivalent imported products. It requires no modification of existing high-speed equipment and no adjustment of original production processes, realizing seamless line switching. Mass production has been launched in standardized intelligent workshops, with stable supply capacity to meet bulk order demands from large-scale packaging groups nationwide.
Industry analysts indicate that the mass production of this high-speed compatible adhesive completes the full layout of domestic solvent-free adhesive product matrix covering high temperature resistance, low odor and high-speed adaptation. It breaks the last technical barrier of domestic high-end solvent-free adhesives, promotes the independent controllability of the entire packaging adhesive industry chain, and accelerates the popularization and localization of high-speed green laminating production lines across China.
