For flexible packaging factories struggling with poor heat resistance, weak adhesion on thick PE and strict food safety standards, Zhejiang Ruico Advanced Materials launches LB 165A main agent matched with Hardener LB 165B, a two-component solvent-based polyurethane adhesive tailored for high-performance dry lamination.
This adhesive system features wide substrate compatibility, covering aluminum foil, treated PE, BOPP, CPP, PET, nylon, metalized CPP and metalized PET. It fits three mainstream composite structures: film-to-film, film-to-metalized film and foil-containing multi-layer packaging. A standout strength is its customized formula for 70–130 μm thick PE films, solving common delamination issues that plague ordinary adhesives.
Engineered with low viscosity, LB 165A achieves outstanding surface wetting, supporting high-speed gravure coating without streaks or uneven glue coverage. Under standardized processing, finished laminates survive 40 minutes of 100°C boiling and 30 minutes of 121°C high-temperature retort sterilization. It delivers strong initial tack, fast solvent volatilization, reliable chemical resistance and consistent bonding stability over long storage. Once fully cured, the adhesive layer remains transparent, odorless, elastic and anti-aging, preserving the clear printing effect of packaging bags.
The product adopts ethyl acetate as solvent, presenting clear to slightly yellow viscous liquid at room temperature. LB 165A holds 65±2% solid content while LB 165B reaches 75±2% solids. The standard mass mixing ratio is 20:3.5, adjustable to 20:3.0–4.0 when laminating metalized films. Users can dilute the mixture with low-water ethyl acetate, acetone or MEK (water content below 300 ppm) to working solids between 30% and 45%; aromatic and alcohol solvents are prohibited as they hinder crosslinking.
Construction rules must be followed strictly. Dilute LB 165A to target solid content first under stirring, then add LB 165B and blend evenly. Sealed mixed glue retains 8 hours of pot life under normal ambient conditions, yet only 2 hours in tropical areas over 28°C with humidity above 60%. The dry coating weight ranges from 2 to 3.5 g/m²; printed films need an extra 1 g/m² adhesive layer. Operators should set a three-stage gradient drying temperature of 55–65°C, 65–75°C and 70–85°C with matched airflow to cut solvent residue. Boosting nip roller temperature and pressure greatly improves bond strength and packaging appearance.
The curing cycle is clear and production-friendly. Triplex composite films can be further processed 2–4 hours after lamination, while rewinding and slitting can be done after 1–2 days. Complete resistance to high heat and chemicals is achieved after 7–14 days of room-temperature curing.
Food contact compliance is a major highlight. Fully cured LB 165A/LB 165B complies with FDA §175.105, BfR XXVIII, EU plastic directives and China GB 9685-2016, satisfying global food packaging safety requirements. Unopened original packages have a 9-month shelf life stored between -30°C and +25°C. Since the hardener contains polyisocyanates, workers must avoid skin contact and follow full isocyanate safety protocols during operation.
Film slip additives, printing inks and surface pretreatment will influence final lamination performance.
