Nitrile gloves may look similar, but their requirements can be quite different depending on the application.
The right NBR latex is not simply about choosing a “higher” or “lower” grade. It is about matching the latex characteristics with the glove structure, production process and end-use requirements.
1. Medical & Examination Gloves
Typical focus:
• Film uniformity
• Tensile strength and elongation
• Low residual odor
• Softness and flexibility
• Skin-contact considerations
• Regulatory requirements
For these applications, latex selection needs to consider both film performance and the requirements of the finished glove.
2. Disposable Industrial Gloves
These gloves may require a balance between comfort and protection.
Typical focus:
• Good film strength
• Flexibility
• Chemical resistance
• Low pinhole risk
• Stable dipping process
• Cost-performance balance
The formulation may be adjusted depending on whether the glove is intended for general handling, cleaning, food-related applications or other industrial uses.
3. Textured / Sanded Industrial Gloves
Here, the surface becomes especially important.
Typical focus:
• Grip
• Abrasion resistance
• Coating adhesion
• Tear resistance
• Surface texture
• Mechanical durability
The NBR latex needs to work well with the specific surface treatment and coating process.
4. Supported & Coated Industrial Gloves
For fabric-supported gloves, the requirements can be different again.
The latex may need to provide:
• Strong adhesion to textile substrates
• Good penetration control
• Flexibility after drying
• Abrasion resistance
• Stable coating viscosity
• Consistent coating thickness
A latex suitable for medical or disposable gloves may also be considered for certain industrial glove applications, provided the final formulation and glove performance meet the requirements.
However, an industrial-glove latex should not automatically be considered suitable for medical gloves without the necessary application and regulatory evaluation.
The right question is not “Which grade is better?”
It is:
“Which latex characteristics match the glove I am producing?”
At RUICO, we develop NBR latex for different glove applications and work with customers based on their dipping process, formulation and final glove requirements.
