Cementing is a key link in the process of oil and gas well construction. Compared with other drilling links, cementing operations have obvious particularities. It is a one-time operation. If the quality is not good, it is difficult to remedy under normal circumstances; it is a concealed operation. The main process is underground and cannot be directly observed during construction. The quality is often determined by the accuracy of the design and the quality of the preparations, and is affected by a combination of many factors, and also affects the subsequent engineering; it is a costly operation, and the casing cost accounts for about 25% of the total drilling cost. Or so it is a highly technical operation with short construction time, multiple procedures and large workload. Obviously, the quality of cementing is an important indicator to measure the quality of a well.

The main content of cementing technology includes casing string design and cement injection technology.

Casing string design is to select different steel grades or different wall thickness casings to form the casing string according to the working conditions of the casing string in the well, so that the external force and the strength of the casing meet a certain relationship. Ensure the safety and economy of the casing string.

 

In order to fix the casing and seal the oil, gas and water layers, cement must be injected between the casing and the well wall after the casing is installed. The method of cement injection for oil and gas wells is different from that of construction on the ground. Pumps are used to pump the cement slurry to the bottom of the well hundreds of meters or even thousands of meters underground, and then return to the annulus outside the pipe and push the drilling fluid away. The cement should fill the entire annulus, and after setting and hardening, a hard and dense cement ring is formed. These characteristics determine the performance difference between oil well cement and ordinary construction cement. The oil well cement slurry is required to have good fluidity, proper setting time, and high early strength. The cement ring outside the casing will be in contact with groundwater for a long time and should have good impermeability and resistance to groundwater corrosion.
