Latex paint is a type of water-based wall paint commonly used in the modern decoration industry. High-quality latex paint is not only odorless and environmentally friendly, but also adds a sense of warmth to the decoration of the house. The reason why latex paint has its own unique advantages , is closely related to the characteristics of various raw materials in the production process. What are the main raw materials in latex paint?

Dispersant:
Wetting agents mainly reduce the surface tension of substances, and their molecular weight is small; dispersants adsorb on the surface of pigments and fillers to generate charge repulsion or steric hindrance, prevent harmful flocculation of pigments and fillers, and keep the dispersion system in a stable state. Generally, the molecular weight is large. .
There are three types of wetting and dispersing agents commonly used in water-based coatings: anionic, cationic, and electrically neutral multifunctional nonionics. Among them, the valence of anions is low, and non-ions are easily desorbed and moved in the coating film.
The basis for the selection of wetting and dispersing agents in formula production: the molecular structure, molecular weight, and hydrophobicity of wetting and dispersing agents lead to their different strengths in wetting and dispersing ability, foam stabilization, anti-settling, water resistance and color development. Therefore, the selection of wetting and dispersing agents in different types of formulations has its own emphasis.

Thickener:
There are many types of thickeners used in latex paints, and the properties and functions of different types of thickeners are different.
1. Polyurethane or HEUR thickener:
These substances have the characteristics of surfactants, water-based cosolvents and surfactants have a great influence on the thickening effect, splash resistance, good leveling, improve the fullness of the coating film, good scrub resistance and alkali resistance, and the thickened latex paint is uniform and free of Flocculation, this non-flocculating coating has gloss potential, the coating film composed of non-flocculating coating is dense, has good penetration resistance, good corrosion resistance, is insensitive to electrolytes, and has no biodegradation.
2. Alkali-soluble or alkali-swellable HASE and ASE thickeners:
This type of ionic thickener is sensitive to pH, and the thickened latex paint is an uneven flocculation system, has no gloss potential, has poor water resistance, alkali resistance and corrosion resistance, is sensitive to electrolytes, and has no biodegradation.
3. Cellulose HEC, HMEC:
This type of non-ionic thickener is not sensitive to pH, has high thickening efficiency, especially effective for water phase, is less affected by emulsion and other additives, thickened latex paint is a flocculating heterogeneous system, no gloss potential, biological degrade.
4. Inorganic bentonite: It has great thixotropy and has little effect on medium and high shear viscosity compared with alkali-soluble or alkali-swellable cellulose.

The performance and advantages of latex paint made of different raw materials are completely different. Therefore, it is recommended that consumers must choose the latex paint products produced by brand companies when purchasing to ensure their health and environmental protection. All in the process of use will not peel off the skin and so on.
