Fiberglass mesh used in ETICS applications is designed to reinforce plaster and render systems. The coating applied to the mesh can influence its handling properties, mechanical performance and resistance to the conditions encountered during use.

A water-based polymer coating system for ETICS mesh can be developed by considering the complete combination of:

  • E-glass yarn structure
  • Mesh weight
  • Aperture size
  • Coating add-on
  • Binder chemistry
  • Additive compatibility
  • Drying and curing conditions

For example, a 5 × 5 mm mesh at 145 g/m² and a 4 × 5 mm mesh at 160 g/m² may require different coating parameters according to their construction and intended application.

The formulation may include a polymer binder together with selected wetting agents, defoamers, thickeners and crosslinking components. The coating-bath solids content and viscosity can be adjusted according to the application method and production line conditions.
