Steel is a non-flammable building material, it has the characteristics of earthquake resistance and bending resistance. In practical applications, steel can not only increase the load capacity of buildings, but also meet the needs of architectural design aesthetic modeling; it also avoids the defects of concrete and other building materials that cannot be bent or stretched. Therefore, steel is favored by the construction industry. It is common to use steel in single-story, multi-story, skyscrapers, factories, warehouses, waiting rooms, and waiting rooms. However, steel as a building material has some unavoidable defects in fire protection. Its mechanical properties, such as yield point, tensile strength and elastic modulus, will all drop sharply due to the increase in temperature.

Steel structure usually loses load-bearing capacity at a temperature of 450~650℃, undergoes great deformation, and causes steel columns and steel beams to bend. As a result, the steel structure cannot continue to be used due to excessive deformation. Generally, the fire resistance of steel structures without protection The limit is about 15 minutes. The length of this time is also related to the speed at which the component absorbs heat.

Among the fireproof coating, there are 2 main types:

  1. Ultra-thin structural fireproof coating

Ultra-thin steel structure fireproof coating refers to a fireproof coating for steel structure with a coating thickness of 3 mm (including 3 mm), good decorative effect, expansion and foaming at high temperatures, and a fire resistance limit generally within 2 h. This type of steel structure fireproof coating is generally a solvent-based system, which has the characteristics of superior bonding strength, good weather resistance and water resistance, good leveling, good decoration, etc.; it slowly expands and foams when exposed to fire to form a dense and hard fireproof insulation , The fireproof layer has strong fire impact resistance, delays the temperature rise of the steel, and effectively protects the steel components. The construction of the ultra-thin expansion steel structure fireproof coating can be sprayed, brushed or rolled, and is generally used on the building steel structure with the fire resistance limit within 2 h. There have been new varieties of ultra-thin steel structure fireproof coatings with fire resistance of 2 h or more. It is mainly based on the combination of polymethacrylate or epoxy resin with special structure, amino resin, and chlorinated paraffin as the base material. Mixture, with high degree of polymerization ammonium polyphosphate, dipentaerythritol, melamine, etc. as fire-retardant system, adding titanium dioxide, wollastonite and other inorganic refractory materials, compounded with 200# solvent oil as solvent. Various light steel structures, grids, etc. mostly use this type of fireproof coating for fire protection. Due to the ultra-thin coating of this type of fire-retardant coating, the use of thicker and thinner fire-retardant coatings for steel structures is greatly reduced, thereby reducing the total cost of the project, and effectively protecting the steel structure with excellent fire protection.

  1. Thick steel structure fireproof coating

Thick steel structure fire retardant coating refers to a steel structure fire retardant coating whose coating thickness is greater than 7 mm and less than or equal to 45 mm, with a granular surface, low density, low thermal conductivity, and fire resistance rating of more than 2 h. Since the components of thick fireproof coatings are mostly inorganic materials, their fireproof performance is stable and the long-term use effect is good. However, the particles of the coating components are larger, and the appearance of the coating is uneven, which affects the overall beauty of the building, so it is mostly used Concealed structure engineering. This kind of fireproof coating uses the granular surface of the material in the fire, the density is small, the thermal conductivity is low or the heat absorption of the material in the coating, delays the temperature rise of the steel, and protects the steel. This kind of fireproof coating is made of suitable inorganic cementing materials (such as water glass, silica sol, aluminum phosphate, refractory cement, etc.), and then mixed with inorganic lightweight heat-insulating aggregate materials (such as expanded perlite, expanded vermiculite, sea boulder, etc.) Floating beads, fly ash, etc.), fire retardant additives, chemical agents and reinforcing materials (such as aluminum silicate fiber, rock wool, ceramic fiber, glass fiber, etc.) and fillers are mixed and formulated, which has the advantage of lower cost. Spraying is often used in construction, which is suitable for indoor and outdoor concealed steel structures, high-rise all-steel structures and multi-storey steel structures with fire resistance requirements of more than 2 h. For example, the fire resistance limit of the columns of high-rise civil buildings and the columns supporting multiple layers in general industrial and civil buildings should reach 3 h, and this thick fire-resistant coating should be used for protection.
