RF-9065: High-Performance Styrene/Acrylate Emulsion for Flexible Waterproofing

In modern construction, waterproofing is essential for protecting buildings and maintaining the durability of construction systems. However, developing a reliable waterproof coating is not simply a matter of adding a water-resistant ingredient to a formulation. The finished coating needs to achieve a careful balance of flexibility, tensile strength, adhesion, water resistance, film formation, and formulation stability.

For manufacturers of construction chemicals, choosing the right polymer emulsion is therefore a key step in developing high-performance waterproofing products.

RF-9065 is a high-performance styrene/acrylate copolymer emulsion designed for one-component flexible waterproofing applications. With excellent powder encapsulation, high thickening response, good adhesion to substrates, good elasticity durability, and excellent anti-swelling performance under water immersion, RF-9065 provides a versatile polymer foundation for flexible waterproofing coating formulations.

A Polymer Designed for Flexible Waterproofing

The performance of a waterproof coating begins with the properties of its polymer binder. During film formation, the polymer contributes to the physical integrity and flexibility of the coating while also influencing adhesion and resistance to environmental exposure.

RF-9065 is based on styrene/acrylate copolymer technology. It has a solid content of approximately 48 ± 1%, a pH value of 8 ± 1 at 25°C, and a particle diameter of 0.10–0.30 μm. The product is supplied as a milky white liquid and has a minimum film-forming temperature below 0°C.

For formulators, these characteristics provide a practical starting point for developing flexible waterproofing systems where film formation and flexibility are important considerations.

High Elasticity for Durable Waterproofing Films

One of the major challenges in waterproofing is maintaining film integrity when the coating is subjected to movement or environmental changes. A waterproofing film needs sufficient flexibility to withstand deformation without becoming excessively brittle.

RF-9065 is designed to provide good elasticity durability. The reported test results show an elongation at break of 406% under untreated conditions, exceeding the specified requirement of at least 300%.

Its high elongation performance was also maintained after different treatments. The reported elongation at break reached 520% after alkali treatment, 385% after acid treatment, and 340% after heat treatment.

These results demonstrate the flexibility of the RF-9065-based coating under the specified testing conditions.

The product also passed the reported -15°C low-temperature bending test, indicating good low-temperature flexibility under the test conditions described in the product documentation.

For manufacturers targeting flexible waterproofing applications, high elongation and low-temperature flexibility can be important factors when selecting a polymer emulsion.

Water Resistance That Supports Long-Term Performance

A waterproof coating is continuously challenged by moisture. If the coating absorbs too much water or swells excessively during immersion, its physical integrity and overall waterproofing performance may be affected.

RF-9065 has been developed with excellent water resistance and anti-swelling properties under water immersion. According to the product introduction, its small molecule migration control technology contributes to excellent interlayer adhesion and water resistance, while also providing weather resistance, aging resistance, and improved anti-swelling performance during immersion.

The reported water impermeability test provides another important performance indicator. At 0.3 MPa for 2 hours, the RF-9065-based waterproof coating was reported as impermeable and passed the test.

For waterproof coating manufacturers, this combination of water impermeability and anti-swelling performance can support the development of coating systems designed for demanding moisture-exposure conditions.

Strong Adhesion to Construction Substrates

Waterproofing is only effective when the coating remains firmly attached to the surface it protects. Poor adhesion can result in separation between the coating and substrate and may compromise the continuity of the waterproofing layer.

RF-9065 provides good adhesion to substrates. The reported adhesion strength was 1.48 MPa under standard conditions and 1.50 MPa on damp substrates.

The performance on damp substrates is particularly relevant when evaluating waterproofing formulations because construction substrates may contain moisture during application or service.

This adhesion performance, combined with the polymer's flexibility, gives formulators an important combination of properties when developing flexible waterproofing coatings.

Excellent Powder Encapsulation for High-Filler Formulations

Another important consideration for waterproof coating manufacturers is the interaction between the polymer emulsion and mineral fillers.

Many waterproofing formulations contain significant quantities of calcium carbonate and other powder materials. The polymer must be capable of supporting a stable coating system while maintaining the desired performance.

RF-9065 provides excellent powder encapsulation and good pigment and filler loading capacity. It also demonstrates a high thickening response, giving formulators useful control over the formulation's rheological characteristics.

The product document includes a formulation example containing 45% RF-9065 and 43.5% 800-mesh ground calcium carbonate. The formulation also contains dispersant, defoamers, ethylene glycol, thickener, water, and biocide.

This example demonstrates the suitability of RF-9065 for a formulation containing a high level of mineral filler and provides a useful starting reference for product development and laboratory testing.

Balanced Tensile Strength and Elongation

A waterproof coating should not be evaluated only by its elongation. Mechanical strength is also important because the film must maintain sufficient integrity under stress.

RF-9065 achieved a reported tensile strength of 2.45 MPa under untreated conditions. Following alkali treatment, the tensile strength was 1.25 MPa, while acid treatment resulted in 1.36 MPa. After heat treatment, tensile strength reached 2.97 MPa.

When considered together with the elongation results, these values demonstrate a combination of tensile strength and flexibility under the specified test conditions.

This balance is particularly relevant for flexible waterproofing coatings, where excessive rigidity can be undesirable while insufficient mechanical strength may also affect coating performance.

Why Choose RF-9065?

For manufacturers developing one-component flexible waterproofing coatings, RF-9065 offers several important advantages in a single polymer system:

High thickening response helps support formulation rheology.

Excellent powder encapsulation makes the polymer suitable for formulations with substantial powder loading.

Good substrate adhesion supports reliable bonding to construction surfaces.

High elasticity durability contributes to flexible coating film performance.

Excellent water resistance supports protection against water penetration.

Excellent anti-swelling performance under water immersion helps maintain coating stability during prolonged moisture exposure.

Good weather and aging resistance provide additional performance advantages for construction applications.

Good low-temperature flexibility supports performance under low-temperature conditions.

The product documentation also provides a construction dosage reference of approximately 1.5 kg of liquid material per square meter.

A Practical Choice for Waterproof Coating Development

Developing a successful waterproof coating requires more than achieving a high water resistance value in the laboratory. Manufacturers need a polymer that can work effectively with fillers, provide good adhesion, form a flexible film, and maintain its performance under different testing conditions.

RF-9065 addresses these requirements through a combination of styrene/acrylate copolymer technology, high elongation, good adhesion, excellent powder encapsulation, high thickening response, water resistance, and anti-swelling performance.

For construction chemical manufacturers, waterproofing formulators, and producers of flexible coating systems, RF-9065 provides a practical polymer platform for developing high-performance one-component flexible waterproofing products.

Choose RF-9065 as a reliable polymer foundation for flexible waterproofing—and develop coating systems designed for flexibility, adhesion, water resistance, and long-lasting performance.
