In the construction industry, waterproofing systems are expected to provide long-term protection against moisture while maintaining strong adhesion and mechanical integrity. High Flexibility for Demanding Waterproofing Applications

A waterproof coating must remain intact when the substrate undergoes movement. For this reason, elongation and toughness are important performance indicators for flexible waterproofing products.

RF-8602 demonstrates high elongation at break in the reported testing. Under untreated conditions, the tested elongation at break reached 186%, compared with a referenced standard requirement of ≥80%.

The coating also maintained substantial elongation after different treatments. After heat treatment, the tested elongation was 169%. After alkali treatment, it remained at 154%, while water immersion resulted in 162%.

This combination of high elongation and retention after conditioning provides formulators with a strong basis for developing flexible waterproofing systems.

Strength and Flexibility in One System

Flexibility alone is not enough. A waterproof coating also needs sufficient tensile strength to withstand mechanical stress during its service life.

According to the product testing data, RF-8602 achieved a tensile strength of 2.44 MPa under untreated conditions, exceeding the referenced requirement of ≥1.8 MPa. After heat treatment, the tested tensile strength was 2.43 MPa.

Following alkali treatment, tensile strength reached 2.18 MPa, while water immersion resulted in 2.34 MPa.

The reported results demonstrate that the tested system combines tensile strength with considerable elongation, an important combination for flexible waterproof coatings.

Adhesion That Supports Long-Term Coating Performance

The effectiveness of a waterproof coating depends heavily on its ability to adhere to the substrate. Poor adhesion can lead to coating defects and reduce the protective function of the waterproofing layer.

RF-8602 demonstrates good adhesion performance under several testing conditions. Its adhesion strength reached 1.24 MPa under untreated conditions, compared with a referenced standard requirement of ≥0.7 MPa.

On a damp substrate, the tested adhesion strength reached 1.02 MPa. After alkali treatment and water immersion, adhesion remained at 1.07 MPa and 0.96 MPa, respectively.

For formulators, these results indicate that RF-8602 can contribute to waterproofing systems requiring reliable adhesion under different environmental conditions.

Excellent Compatibility with Cement and Powder

One of the key challenges in developing two-component waterproofing products is achieving good compatibility between the polymer emulsion and cementitious powder.

RF-8602 is specifically described as having excellent cement compatibility, good open time, high powder-loading capacity, and good adaptability to construction environments. The product also demonstrates good retention of mechanical properties.

The reference formulations provided for RF-8602 include several liquid-to-powder ratios, such as 1:1, 1:1.5, and 1:2.5. The powder component can contain PC42.5 Portland cement and different grades of sand. This allows manufacturers to explore different formulation structures according to their target products and application requirements.

RF-8602 provides application flexibility beyond conventional two-component waterproof coatings.

Before application, debris and laitance should be removed, cracks and holes repaired, and the substrate prepared to be flat, solid, and free of standing water. The liquid component is then combined with the powder component according to the specified liquid-to-powder ratio. After initial mixing, the material is allowed to stand for approximately five minutes before being stirred again.

Critical areas such as internal and external corners, pipe roots, and floor drains should receive a reinforcement layer before the main waterproofing coating is applied. The main area is then coated in layers, with crosswise application between coats.
