The polymer binder is an important component of a fiberglass mesh coating system.

Its selection can influence adhesion, film formation, flexibility, stiffness, water resistance and resistance to alkaline conditions.

The binder system can be selected according to:

  • E-glass yarn type
  • Existing sizing system
  • Mesh construction
  • Coating equipment
  • Target coating add-on
  • Drying temperature
  • Final application

A suitable formulation may contain a single polymer binder or a combination of polymer systems.

Additional formulation components may include:

  • Wetting agents
  • Defoamers
  • Thickeners
  • Crosslinking agents
  • Other functional additives
