Fiberglass mesh products can vary in mesh weight, aperture size, yarn construction and end-use application.

Typical product structures may include:

  • 90–100 g/m², 10 × 10 mm mesh for interior plaster
  • 110–125 g/m², 5 × 5 mm mesh for plaster reinforcement
  • 145 g/m², 5 × 5 mm mesh for ETICS applications
  • 160 g/m², 4 × 5 mm mesh for ETICS and stone backing

These differences can influence the requirements of the coating system.

The coating formulation may need to be adjusted according to:

  • Mesh openness
  • Yarn density
  • Target stiffness
  • Required flexibility
  • Coating penetration
  • Dry coating add-on
  • End-use performance requirements

A formulation approach developed for one mesh structure may require further adjustment when applied to another product.

For this reason, coating development generally involves both formulation evaluation and process trials.
