Blackout fabrics are widely used in residential curtains, hotels, offices, schools, hospitals, and commercial buildings. While the appearance of the finished fabric is important, the coating structure behind the fabric has a direct impact on light blocking, flexibility, processing stability, and long-term use.
A typical blackout backing consists of three functional layers.
The layer is the base coat, which connects the coating to the textile substrate. This layer provides film formation and creates the foundation for subsequent coatings. Maintaining suitable viscosity and pH during production helps achieve uniform coating distribution.
The second layer is the top coat. By combining the binder with titanium dioxide, black pigment, and functional additives, manufacturers can improve coating coverage and maintain a consistent surface. Foam coating technology also helps control coating weight while reducing material consumption.
The final layer is the anti-sticking treatment. During transportation and storage, coated fabrics are commonly wound into rolls. A release layer helps reduce surface adhesion between fabric layers and improves handling during converting and packaging.
Each layer performs a different function, but together they contribute to a stable production process and consistent finished products.
