Summary:Nov 26,2020

According to FactMR’s recently compiled report, the flame resistant and retardant fabric market will register a splendid 6.9% volume CAGR during the forecast period (2017-2026). Approximately US$ 7,300 Mn worth of flame resistant and retardant fabric are foreseen to be sold across the globe by 2026-end.

The use of flame resistant fabric is also increasing in furnishings, manufacture garments, and apparels used in industries such as military, hospitality, and healthcare. In past few years, the demand for flame resistant fabrics is also high in the defense industry and several other industries that have a constant risk for fire outbreaks. Therefore, the global market for flame resistant fabric is expected to see high growth in coming years. In addition, increasing government regulations to provide safety to the employees working in the high-risk industries is likely to boost the demand in this market.

Development of novel products is a key trend observed in the global flame resistant and retardant fabric market. For example, in 2017, researchers from the Nanyang Technological University, located at Singapore, have developed a water-based solution for flame-retardant coating for cotton fabrics by using a phospho-nitrogen combination. This one-step spray-on procedure is employed for coating the fabrics by capitalizing on the spontaneous reactions between tetrakis (hydroxymethyl) phosphonium chloride (THPC) and para-phenylenediamine (PDA).

Robust demand for these fabric for application in the production of protective clothing for fire fighters, naval & armed forces, and miners, is a key growth determinant for the market. For example - anti-flash gloves and hoods derived from Kevlar are currently being used by Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN), and a flame retardant jute-based fabric has been developed by the IJIRA – Indian Jute Industries Research Association, for use as brattice clothing by coal miners.
